Info
An interactive offering for children that tells the Mid-Winter solstice story of how the spirits of the departed transform into stars that are hung up in the night sky, via Te Waka o Rangi. Children begin this tour by making and naming their own glow-in-the- dark star, representing a beloved person or pet who has recently passed over. They then accompany their memorial stars onto Te Waka O Rangi, which travels with the children through the Ora Star Garden, to a place where their newly made stars can be left to collectively glow in the heavens. This musical story recognizes and acknowledges the māori new year as a waka-like constellation that has Puanga as its stern and the Matariki stars as its prow.
